Kegger
Wall of fame
Keggers are a special breed, known for their character, passion and drive to succeed. Here are some of the shining lights who shaped their future with us. We think you’ll recognize a few of them.
I was in my last year of high school when I started at The Keg in the dish area. Over my ten years at The Keg, I worked my way up to busboy and then became a server/bartender, but looking back, washing dishes was where I learned my first and most important lesson: treat people with respect, whatever their position! My big claim to fame was winning the Keg Cup Air Band competition two years in a row.
I feel that those competitions, combined with always trying to entertain guests in the restaurant, opened the door for me to start trying stand-up comedy. Last but not least, I was always Gerry Donoghue before The Keg, but there were two other Gerrys there — so I got called “Gerry D.” When I started performing as a comic, that name seemed totally natural to me, so I stuck with it: Gerry Dee.

YEARS AT THE KEG: 11 (1990 - 2001)
POSITIONS AT THE KEG: Bar Server, Bartender, Variable Manager, Dining Room Server, Bar Manager
LOCATIONS: Leslie St., Mansion (trained at Estate Dr., Church St.)
My Keg career started in 1990 as a bar server and I worked for several years in other staff roles. Eventually, I became a Keg manager, during which time I learned a lot about leading people and how to get results from others! Being on stage at The Keg really did prepare me for my current role as a sports journalist.
More important than the business skills I gained, are the lifelong friendships that I made during those years. #KeggerForLife
My years serving guests at the Keg were some of the best of my life. I worked with a great group of people who felt more like family than co-workers and learned what being part of a team really is. Golfing with the girls was a mid-week requirement — and we had the freedom of schedule to do it! Working there allowed me to meet and connect with so many great people;
to this day I still find that almost everyone I talk to has either worked for The Keg or has a relative that has worked there! It was an overwhelmingly positive experience and one that I won’t forget.
Martin McQueen gave me my start at The Keg in Vaughan in 2008, and I was there for close to 3 years. I can honestly say that The Keg was the best working environment I’ve ever been a part of. Not only is it a great place to work, it’s a place that gives back to all of its employees. From great staff parties and baseball tournaments to bar Oscars and the legendary Keg Cup each year, The Keg really takes care of its family.
And that’s what I loved most about it: you become “family” there. You’re not just another employee. They were always so supportive of what I did with my music. I’ll never forget what Marty said to me when I walked into his office to resign when I got my first record deal with Neverest. He said, "Well Paul, I can’t say I’m usually happy to let a great employee like you go, but I couldn’t be happier to let you go for this reason.” That’s the kind of support you get at The Keg.
